Given the current COVID-19 situation Opera Fusion is postponing its general auditions for the 2020 Renee Greenberg Emerging Artists Project, as well as for its 2020 and 2021 seasons originally scheduled for April 26th and 27th at the Sunshine Cathedral, 1480 SW 9th Avenue, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33315.
We will post an update when auditions will be rescheduled.
The Renee Greenberg Emerging Artists Project — often affectionately called “Opera Boot Camp” — is now in its sixth year, provides a unique opportunity for young singers specifically located in South Florida to hone their craft.
Over 4 weeks each summer, we invite 12-16 local singers to work with nationally renowned opera coaches and stage directors, providing invaluable experience as they launch their careers. This year, we will be presenting a program entitled Women of Courage, to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the passage of the 19th Amendment giving women the right vote. It will feature several scenes from operas such as Virgil Thomson’s The Mother of Us All, Carlyle Floyd’s Susannah, Douglas Moore’s The Ballad of Baby Doe, and local composer Michael Ross’ Harriet Tubman, among others. Rehearsals will start in early August, with performances on September 11th and 12th at the Sunshine Cathedral. The other change we’re making from past years is that we will be offering a small stipend to each young artist.
We are once again thrilled to be joined by noted stage director Martha Collins, musical director Greg Ritchey, and nationally recognized opera coach, Ben Malensek.
